Nottinghamshire
County Council &
Veolia Environment
after having a previous similar plan refused this year by
Mansfield Planning Department, now propose to build a large
Incinerator to burn household waste at the old Rufford
Colliery site at Rainworth, Nottinghamshire. They have
declared the project as an Energy Recovery Facility to
make it sound environmentally friendly, which it is not. The
plan at this time is for the next 26 years, however this
could be longer.
You may have received a green
leaflet which stated that it would produce electrical energy
from the project which would light up local houses. This is true but failed to disclose this
would cause a huge increase in green house gases
(CO2)
which now
flies in the face
of international agreements.
This project also breaches the recent
STERN (30/10/2006) report on global warming to radically
reduce CO2 emissions.
The project is supposed to
burn household rubbish only, however even this when burnt
produces toxic gasses, particulates and chemicals even with the
best filters available today.
They intend to carry out composting of biodegradable waste, and a
low level waste recycling from only profitable products.
The rest
will be burnt.
They say this policy is
correct as it reduces waste and increases recycling to
52% by 2020. As you will see from this site the Green
leaflet is in fact a Brown leaflet which smoothes over the
real facts and hides from you the real truth about this
flawed and dangerous policy which has not been fully
researched planned or understood.
